 HISTORY

The Cognitive Mentoring Therapy Bus is a program founded by the Rev. Gilberto Rosado for 2006.  It was an evolutionary outgrowth of his methodology in training up leaders within the church population.  Additionally, a major part of this vision was forged when a school bus was given to the church by another minister.  Together with Rosado’s affinity for baroque music and the ongoing development of his research and writings on cognitive mentoring therapy, he saw the natural extension of the work in the form of this bus.  The bus would be a mobile platform that would transport his services to every community within reach.  As he was traveling abroad to South America, where he introduced a few of the programs associated with this one, he also could see the great viability of a bus based program in each country.

During 2005, the bus broke down - its transmission gave out.  It was then that Rev. Gilberto Rosado decided to shift the bus from church transportation and into the mobile clinic which is the Cognitive Mentoring Therapy Bus Program.  For all of 2006 the bus has remained garaged awaiting the development of the grant proposals and the establishment of other organizational logistics that would facilitate the commencement and maintenance of the program.

The bus addresses the needs that we see consistently within the population.  While counseling a young teenager referred by the court system, he saw how the CMT Bus could go from town to town reaching the youth with instruction and life-changing enlightenment.  In the process he realized that families should be founded and maintained within a learning contract.  The family, he realized, was a learning engagement.  If the family unit is not engaged in learning by way of its inherent structure and prerogatives, the family unit develops in rigidity and tends to break easily – this translates into problem youth, lower academic performance and absence of higher cognitive skills.  It is through learning that we are enabled to bear the weaknesses and shortcomings manifest through the trials and challenges of life.

The Rev. Rosado envisioned a mobile outreach and intervention model where key community leaders and residents could find resources, conversation, instruction and guidance - new instruction that could better equip them for future challenges or help them through a present situation.

In 2005-2006, the Rev. Rosado started work on his books that incorporate the methodology and serve as the backbone to extending his services and ministry to the masses via the courses, community gatherings, individual sessions, and community based outreaches and interventions by trained and certified cognitive mentors.

Both last year and this present one, we have conducted workshops in New York and New Jersey.  The attendees have become faithful fans of the conferences and are constantly waiting for the next installment to be presented.  This year it will begin a new format in June – admittedly late in the year, but necessary in order for our program to gear up for the next level of which this forum and presentation is a part.  In addition it afforded us planning time to set up the new format and delivery schedule for our services.  Regardless, we have still maintained our services to the community and have seen the same results consistently throughout.  We only lack the bus part of the program to become more effective.

We see already how our method has helped those in serious situations heading towards becoming social problems steer away from that certain fate and unto diverse manner of productive and positive engagement.  Most programs engage target clientele by becoming a productive engagement themselves.  This is good and also is bad because it tends then to alienate those who really are not at a level to proactively seek out such engagements.  The bus program allows us to intervene in their regular daily life and give them a realization towards the seeking of positive and productive engagements - where they can finally see that they can and are capable.  Most of the youth feel disenfranchised from the larger society.  The CMT bus makes clear that they are society and that society is in need of their contribution.  To date, the Rev. Rosado’s counseling practice has never suffered any recidivism.  The methodology also has saved a young man from committing suicide.  All of our clients continue to live normal, happy, satisfied lives and remain close to our program for continual support and edification.  The program maintains several services that keep them connected: regular meetings, activities, CD-A-Month, Newsletter and online chat and forums for mutual exchange.

In 2007, the program, along with our others, initiated an internet delivery method so that our contact can be maintained online.  At present, we are still trying to secure video and broadcasting equipment in order to feed our video instruction online to our clients in whom number many from South America – Colombia, Panama & Ecuador to name a few.

Our Future:

With the help of donors, grants and other support, we would like to establish at minimum a CMT Bus program in every major city and region, certify local center therapists and educators, and provide periodic conferences in mass in which Rev. Rosado will lead and instill his methodology to all program participants in each area with the goal of establishing a permanent center within each community equipped to address all the cognitive needs of the population utilizing all of our programs.  The process of preparing cognitive mentor therapists is ongoing and remains the basic focus of all our endeavors.
